If you have a business which conducts most of its activity over the web, then one of the best ways of promoting your website is to submit your URL to search engines. There is no press release, print or radio ad or anything else which will make it as easy to find your website as this will – although all of the above can be effective and should certainly not be discouraged.
You should be cautious about companies which offer to submit your website to hundreds of search engines automatically; but fail to deliver on this promise. To make sure that your site is submitted to the search engines, the best course of action is to do it yourself or hire someone to do this manually by getting in contact with the search engines and directories directly.
Before submitting your site to the search engines, you need to be sure that your website is ready to receive the visitors you will surely draw. For instance you should not submit your website if it is still under construction.
When you submit your site, give all of the important information about your site, the keywords used and any other relevant information, including the name and contact information of your business.
You should also remember that by submitting your site to search engines – this is no guarantee for a high search engine ranking or lots of traffic. Since there are literally thousands of sites being submitted daily, it can take a while before a human has a look at your website.
Something else you must also do is to make a site map for your site, which is going to make the job easier for the web crawlers used by the search engines easier. Google and other search engines prefer sites which have sitemaps.
